Here is some information about Laura's work in her own words:

I am a feltmaker and silk painter.  I like to experiment with a range of textile techniques though I often find myself returning to the wonderful textural and sculptural properties of felt, combining my hand painted silks with wool.  I find feltmaking a uniquely joyful experience, the tactile nature and element of unpredictability in the process appeals to me and makes each piece an exciting adventure to make.  I usually work with merino wool as this felts beautifully and is available in such a wide range of colours.  I feel drawn to strong, vibrant colours and I use these in my work.

My other passion is jewellery and my recent work seeks to combine my silversmithing experience with felt resulting in a range of colourful earrings, pendants and brooches.  Inspiration is derived from all around me, adapting colour and form from nature and also everyday objects.

For the last four years I have had the pleasure of being able to collaborate with Corner 9 Arts Project in London (www.corner9.com) working on a number of community projects and running both adult and children's workshops.  I have been able to share my passion for textiles and introduce people to the joyful and tactile experience of feltmaking.

Spring Wedding Show in Northamptonshire

I am going to this year's Spring Wedding Show that is being held at the Kettering Conference Centre on Sunday 26th February 2012.

There will be various companies and organisations showing their services and products couples preparing to tie the knot. Also attending will be my good friends, Gaz and Nicky, representing their company Your Paella.

Highlights of the day include:
10.30am - 3.30pm, Free Admission.
Fashion Showcase at 11.30am and 1:30pm.
Competition to win £300 towards your wedding.

I will be having a small table to display samples of my lovely work to prospective clients. I have been working hard the last couple of weeks to prepare and have produced samples for the 250 goody bags that will be handed out on the day. What do you think?

I printed and put together 250 packs containing a flyer with info about
Lovely Designs and a sample Thank You card with a snazzy silver envelope.

I used four different card colours: silver, white, purple and pale purple.

I printed the Thank You cards on pearlescent shimmery card.

My new fabulous portfolio cover that can be unscrewed when I need to update my work.

The outer cover was made with a dark grey pleather (mock leather) and had the words 'HELLO' embossed
as an extra detail. Hopefully will encourage people to open it and take a look!

The inside of the covers were lined with pale suedelle (pretend suede).

I bought a couple of table number holders from Confetti to put some samples in.

My A4-ish sign in a rustic white frame.

Wish me luck for Sunday!

Glam Hatters' Hen Parties

Have you got a hen party to plan or want to a fun way to spend the afternoon with friends? Why not consider a group hat making course with tea and cakes to fuel your ideas.

In December 2011, I went with my mum to the East London Design Show and one of the items she bought was a fascinator kit from Janie Lawson's stand. You can read all about the show and my other favourite designers on my previous post. Janie's work features at number 5 on the list.

As well as designing bespoke hats, facinators and selling kits to make your own, Janie runs afternoon courses with groups in mind. Here is a bit more information:

The Glam Hatters' fascinator workshops are pure fun and a brilliant hen party idea. Designed by Janie Lawson a professional milliner and taught by her highly skilled and fabulously fun Glam Hatters' teachers. Choose from a dressing up box of gorgeous feathers, veiling and trimmings, you will come away with a beautiful fascinator to wear to the wedding.

The hen parties are held in Janie's London studio or a venue of your choice. The London studio is a four minute walk from Clapham North tube, a genuine millinery studio full of hats and materials to inspire you. Housed in a bohemian chic art studio, the faded grandeur of this Victorian building will charm you.

Janie's Glam Hatters' girls also travel nation wide bringing the Glam Hatters' hen parties to a location of your choice. They will arrive half an hour before the party to re-create the Glam Hatters' style. A one off £30 travel fee is charged for parties outside the studio.

There are a range of packages:

As well as the hen party packages there are Posh Girl Parties, children's parties and corporate parties available too. If you don't want to arrange a party but want the chance to make your own hat or fascinator, there are also hat kits sold online. My mum bought one of their kits at a craft fair in December 2011.

Be My Valentine

With the day of romance and love soon approaching, I thought I would do a shameless plug for my new range of cards for Valentine's Day. This girl has got to make a living!

I created three designs based on some cards that I designed and printed a while ago to hand out to potential clients at wedding fairs. My personal favourite was the lovestruck robot. The lady bugs in love was made with my hubby in mind. But the most popular card at the fairs was the simple confetti heart design on a bold red background. Which is your favourite?

The Valentine cards are printable templates, same as my recent Christmas and New Year cards. The designs are available to purchase on my online shops:

Robot Love

Love Bug

Be Mine

So far I have sold my robot card template a couple of times and had my heart card 'favourited' a few times. I would love to hear your feedback about the designs, pricing and any suggestions on how I can improve my service or shops. Please leave your comments below.
